How was your Mom's Day?
>> May 15, 2012
To all the moms out there - how was your holiday? Did you have an enjoyable weekend, spending time with your family and relaxing? I hope so. I hope you were treated like gold.
I, myself, had a great day. Hubby took point with Caroline and left me free to do the things I rarely make time to do. I went to the gym and worked out - with no specific time I had to leave. I got to watch trashy E! tv on the elliptical while gettin' my gym on. Then I sat in the steam room for 20 (yes 20!) whole minutes. I just steamed. I sat and steamed. I even made time to blow dry my hair. It was quite the holiday.
And not only that - but I took an afternoon nap. Hubby let me take. a. nap. For real. And while I was napping, he made dinner. A dinner that did not consist of pasta or frozen pizza. Yes, it was quite the holiday.
And Caroline got me a card.
Before you get all "what was she thinking?! She asked for one?!?" on me - I asked for one for Valentine's Day, but Hubby refused. (Which in hindsight, was probably very smart of him.) But with a small child and two dogs running around this house lately, our carpets have been less than spotless. Frankly, our whole first floor could use a good scrub down. So maybe if I am really lucky, Hubby will treat me to another "Caroline take point day" soon, and I will get an empty house so I can fire this baby up! Woop! (That folks, is legit excitement. Yes, single ladies, this is what life comes to.)
But before you get all worried on me, all is not lost. Hubby picked up one more thing...
He bought me a flower box for our front window. We hung it Sunday and it looks great. But, this flower box comes with a stipulation.
Each season, Caroline and I - together - need to plant something festive. It's going to be our ongoing mother-daughter ritual. My nursing time is quickly coming to an end, and I think Hubby can sense that I am missing my Caroline time. Without our usual snuggling, I am at a loss for more time together. I think Hubby knew that. And maybe it's just a flower box, and maybe it's just another thing "to do" and item around the household we have to manage - but at least it's guaranteed time with my daughter - from now until we leave this house.
In case you are in the market - this particular flower box is from Walpole. They make nice stuff. And if you are in the area, they have a really nice clearance center where you can pick up some of their items for much, much less. I will be sure to update you once Caroline and I get our first window box all fancied up!
Hope all you moms out there had a great day!

Happy mother's day, Shannon! I'm so glad it was what you wanted and needed! And I'm loving your flower box and the idea behind it...what is sure to be a very sweet tradition.
